I stumbled upon these adorable snowman beads on Amazon and inspiration struck immediately—I knew I had to design a special ornament just for them! The result is this fun and modern project: a cheerful wooden snowman (with the requisite top hat, coal eyes and buttons, as well as carrot nose); nestled inside a whimsical ribbon-style Christmas tree.
This free pattern is incredibly quick to work up, making it perfect for last-minute gifts, a post-Christmas and pre-New Year ornament, craft fair bestsellers, or a relaxing evening project. You can whip up a whole flurry of these ornaments in no time! They’re also a fantastic way to use up those leftover scraps of yarn. They’re also a perfect way to keep up that last bit of Christmas spirit just before New Year’s rings in.

Materials
Yarn:
Most yarn weights are appropriate, from fingering to worsted weight.
Tools:
- Crochet hook – the size recommended for your yarn or one size smaller for tighter stitches.
- Scissors
- Tapestry needle
- Wooden beads – I use snowman beads with twine (you may buy them on Amazon for 8 USD), but you may take any beads you have and paint the face and button details on them yourself, maximizing the entirely handmade appeal. If you are using your beads, is suggest white, but any color will work. You may use e.g. 3 white or natural beads for snowman and 1 smaller black bead for the hat. A flat, black ring will function great as the hat brim.

Pattern Instructions
FOUNDATION ROW:
Ch 120 (This consists of 118 foundation chains + 2 turning chains). [Ch 120]
ROUND 1:
Starting form the 3rd ch form the hook, we will be crocheting hdc into each of the foundation chains. The 28th, 68th, 94th chains will be followed by picot clusters created by 4 hdcs with a ch-2 picot on their tops. Here is how it goes step-by step:
Starting in the 3rd ch from the hook, work 3 hdc into the same stitch.
Work 1 hdc into each of the next 27 chains.
First Picot Cluster: In the next chain, work the following: *(1 hdc, ch 2, sl st into the first ch). Repeat from * 4 times.
Work 1 hdc into each of the next 36 chains.
Second Picot Cluster: In the next chain, work the following: (1 hdc, ch 2, sl st into the first ch). Repeat from * to * 4 times.
Work 1 hdc into each of the next 22 chains.
Third Picot Cluster: In the next chain, work the following: * (1 hdc, ch 2, sl st into the first ch). Repeat from * 4 times.
Work 1 hdc into each remaining chain until you reach the last chain.
Work 3 hdc into the last chain.
[ 118 hdc with 3 clusters of 4 picots]
Assembly
Step 1:
Finish off and weave in the ends. Lay your tree piece out on a flat surface making sure the ending of the last row is at the top.
Step 2:
Fold up the crocheted ribbon starting from the bottom in the way show on the photo. Each fold has 2 layers. The picot clusters should be placed on the top of the ribbon layer and centered in the middle just beneath the wooden beads.
Step 3:
Place your beads in between the folds such that each bead is just above a picot cluster.
Step 4:
Thread a needle with yarn or jute twine. Starting with the bottom, take your needle up thought the center of a ribbon layers and beads, going through the layers step by step if needed.
Step 5:
Leave approx. 3 in – 10 cm on the top for hanging and reapeat threading the ribbon layers and beads but this time form the top to the bottom.
Step 6: Make a knot at the top to secure the snowman. Tighten the twine at the bottom and cut off the loose ends.
