Tired of juggling your phone, keys, and cards? Discover the ultimate hands-free crochet accessory!
Remember my other iPhone pocket Chic Ribbed BLsc Phone Pocket Holder? Here is one that’s easier and quicker to make, and will fit a greater variety of phones. Although it’s not as stretchy as the original, it’s looser, thicker stitches will work up much quicker, and give it a beautiful, ridged texture. Like the original, it fits most modern phones, but is also good for other form factors, making it great for older ones as well. Moreover, it still has some stretch and its chic ribbed texture is both fashionable and durable. It’s perfect for everyone who leads an active life.

This Mobile Cozy is perfect for busy parents, students, and older adults—it’s quick to make and super easy to attach or detach from any bag, backpack strap, stroller handle, or walking aid.
Pattern Details & What You’ll Need
This beginner-friendly, but nevertheless somewhat challenging project is a great lesson for mastering the Back Loop Half Double Crochet stitch.
The BL HDC is the real key here. Since it is worked only into the back loop of the stitch, it renders a well defined, slightly stretchy and ribbed item that’s so evocative of knitting.

Materials List:
- Yarn: Medium Weighed Yarn (size 4), I’m using Stylecraft Special DK
- Hook: Recommended size for your yarn (I used 4 mm).
- Tapestry needle, scissors, stitch markers.
Gauge & Sizing:
Size of a pocket: 14 1/2″ x 4″.
Sizing Note: This pattern is easily adjustable! Follow the repeat structure to accommodate different phone sizes (with or without a case).
The size is universal – the phone pocket fits any size smartphone.
How to extand the patten to a crossbody bag:
My hand loop measures 6″, which corresponds to 26 sts in the pattern.
Should you wish to wear this case as a crossbody phone pouch, you merely need to measure from your shoulder/arm to your hip and adjust the foundation chains accordingly. That’s all!
For example, to make a crossbody pouch with a 24″ pass-through loop, add 78 chains to the original 26. Then, your foundation chain would start with 144 chains, and your hand loop will extend to 104 chains.

Abbreviations:
St(s) = Stitch (es)
Ch = Chain stitch
BLhdc = back loop half double crochet = a half double crochet stitch but only work into the back loop of the stitch from the previous row
RS = right side of your work
BS = back side of the pocket (indisde side)
The pattern is written in US terms.
How to Make the Back Loop Single Crochet Stitch (BLhdc)

Simple Cozy Mobile iPhone Pocket Instructions:
This cozy is a wonderful project for those that can’t be bothered to reach into a backpack a purse or a pocket every time they want to take a call or check messages, At the same time, it’s a good idea to keep your phone safe. So, here is a pattern for a phone holster that’s stylish and keeps your device at the ready, but secure so that you don’t lose it and it doesn’t break.
Foundation:
Ch 66 + ch2. Turn.
Row 1:
Hdc 66 in the back side of the fundation chains. Ch2. Turn.
(You may also work into the front side is you struggle to make the stitches into the back of the chains.)
Row 2-10:
Blhdc across all stitches. Ch 2, turn. [66 BLhdc].
Row 11 – Creating the Hand Loop:
BLhdc 32, ch 26, skip 26 stitches underneath, BLhdc 8. Ch 2. turn.

Row 12-22:
BLhdc across all stitches. Ch 2, turn. [66 BLhdc].

Joining the Pocket
Fold the pocket in half lengthwise, placing the hand loop (Row 11) at the back, centered. The join is worked on the back side, so ensure the BS of your pocket faces you. To join use a yarn needle and sew togheter:

- 8 sts from the one side working through the front loops (nearest to you) of both layers. Fasten off.
- Reattach yarn at the opposite edge and join through the 32 sts the same way (working through the front loops of both layers).
- Join together the top and bottom edges by sewing with the yarn needle. Before you start joining the top and the bottom, make sure that the hand loop are centered in the middle.
